Guest Damage Insurance Pricing and Billing

Understand how Guest Damage Insurance is priced, when you're billed, and how reservation changes affect your insurance costs.

Written by Dawn Ginie Santoyo

Guest Damage Insurance is paid for by the host and charged per covered reservation. The price depends on the contents coverage limit you select and the length of the stay.

You can review pricing before activating a policy, and insurance charges are included in your monthly Hospitable invoice after covered reservations check out.

How Much Does Guest Damage Insurance Cost?

Guest Damage Insurance offers five contents coverage limits. You choose the limit when setting up your policy.

All prices are in USD.

For stays of one to five nights, you pay a flat rate per reservation.

For stays of six nights or more, the nightly rate applies to every night of the reservation, not just the nights after the fifth.

For example, with a $3,000 contents coverage limit:

  • A five-night stay costs $28.

  • A six-night stay costs $33.60 (6 × $5.60).

  • A ten-night stay costs $56 (10 × $5.60).

All eligible US-based hosts and properties receive the same coverage terms. Only the contents coverage limit can be selected by the host. Other coverage limits and deductibles remain the same regardless of the contents limit selected.

How does pricing work for longer stays?

There is no minimum or maximum reservation length restriction under Guest Damage Insurance.

For reservations lasting six nights or more, the nightly rate applies to the entire stay.

For example, a 60-night reservation with $1,500 in contents coverage costs:

60 nights × $5.20 = $312

The premium is calculated based on the reservation's final length of stay.

Can I choose a different deductible to lower the price?

No. Deductibles are fixed for each coverage type.

The contents coverage limit is the only coverage amount you can select when setting up a policy.

When Will I Be Charged?

You are not charged when you create or activate a Guest Damage Insurance policy.

Instead, insurance is charged after each covered reservation checks out.

The cost is included in your next monthly Hospitable subscription invoice.

For example, if three insured reservations check out during November, the premiums for those reservations are included in the next monthly invoice.

You don't need to submit reservation information or pay the insurance provider separately.

Where can I see my insurance costs?

Guest Damage Insurance charges are included in your Hospitable billing and financial data.

The insurance cost is calculated per covered reservation, allowing you to associate the charge with the corresponding stay.

How Do Reservation Changes Affect Pricing?

What happens if a reservation is cancelled?

If a covered reservation is cancelled before check-in, its Guest Damage Insurance coverage is cancelled.

You won't be charged for that reservation.

Once a covered reservation has checked in, its insurance cannot be removed or cancelled through a policy change. The reservation remains billable at checkout.

What happens if a reservation is shortened or extended?

The insurance premium adjusts to reflect the reservation's final length of stay.

For example, with $3,000 in contents coverage:

  • A five-night reservation costs $28.

  • If the reservation is extended to six nights, the premium becomes $33.60.

  • If the reservation is shortened from six nights to five nights, the premium becomes $28.

The final charge is determined after checkout.

What happens if I add a property to an existing policy?

When you add a property to a policy, eligible reservations within the policy's selected booking channels can receive coverage.

If an insured reservation checks out during that billing month, its insurance premium is included in the applicable monthly invoice.

Can Guests Pay for Guest Damage Insurance?

Guest Damage Insurance is a host-paid product.

Hospitable does not automatically add the insurance premium to the guest's booking or offer Guest Damage Insurance as a guest-purchased product.

Some hosts account for insurance costs when setting their accommodation prices or existing fees.

Booking-channel rules and insurance regulations may restrict additional guest charges or how insurance costs are passed on. Review the applicable booking-channel requirements before changing your fees.

Can I charge property owners for the insurance cost?

If you manage properties on behalf of owners, you can record Guest Damage Insurance costs in Hospitable Owner Statements.

You can:

  • Add the insurance charge as a transaction on a reservation-level Owner Statement.

  • Configure a recurring owner-statement transaction.

Owners can pay through the Owners Portal using their usual payment method.

Since Hospitable bills insurance monthly, you may choose to account for these charges in your monthly owner statements.

For reservations lasting more than five nights, use the applicable nightly premium when calculating the charge.
