Marketplace Cleaning FAQ

Learn how Marketplace cleanings work, including eligibility, booking, managing cleanings, pricing, and troubleshooting

Written by Pierre-Camille Hamana

Marketplace cleanings connect eligible properties with cleaners through Cleanster, a supply partner for the Marketplace.

If your property is eligible, you can continue booking and managing Marketplace cleanings through Hospitable. If Marketplace cleanings aren't available for your property, use one of Hospitable's other cleaning integrations or create a manual cleaning task rule.

🚨 Marketplace cleanings aren't available to new properties or properties that had not used the service before July 2026

What about my existing tasks?

  • Your existing after-checkout cleaning tasks will stay as they are.

If your account is eligible for Marketplace cleanings, Autopilot will add cleaning tasks to bookings created after activation. For example, if you receive a new booking tomorrow, an Autopilot cleaning task will automatically be created for it.

  • If you use another cleaning integration, such as Turno, or a separate Cleanster connection, disable cleaning task creation there before activating Autopilot cleanings to avoid duplicate tasks.

  • To create or edit a Marketplace cleaning task rule, follow the standard task rule creation flow and select Cleaning as the task type.

How do I book a one-off (ad-hoc) Marketplace cleaning?

Ad-hoc cleanings are one-time cleanings you book on demand. Unlike Autopilot cleanings, they aren't generated automatically from a cleaning rule or reservation.

To book an ad-hoc Marketplace cleaning:

  1. Go to Operations → Task Calendar.

  2. Click + New and choose Cleaning.

  3. Select the property, then set the cleaning's start and end time.

  4. Click Find a cleaner for me to send the job to the Marketplace.

You'll be matched with an available cleaner and charged the same per-clean rate as an Autopilot cleaning for that property.

Can I cancel or reschedule a one-off (ad-hoc) Marketplace cleaning?

Yes. Ad-hoc cleanings follow the same cancellation and rescheduling rules as Autopilot cleanings.

To cancel or reschedule an ad-hoc cleaning, go to Operations → Task Calendar and open the cleaning's card.

Cancellation fees depend on when you cancel:

  • More than 24 hours before the cleaning starts: Free to cancel.

  • Less than 24 hours before the cleaning starts: A $20 cancellation fee applies.

  • Less than 2 hours before the cleaning starts, or after the cleaner has arrived: The full cleaning cost is charged.

Rescheduling is free at any time, as long as the cleaner accepts the new time slot.

Canceling less than 24 hours before a cleaning may result in a fee. If you cancel less than 2 hours before the cleaning or after the cleaner arrives, you'll be charged the full cleaning cost.

What's the difference between an Autopilot cleaning and a one-off (ad-hoc) cleaning?

Both use the Marketplace to find a cleaner, but they're created differently:

  • Autopilot cleanings are generated automatically by a cleaning rule you set up for a property. Every reservation that matches the rule creates a cleaning, so you don't need to book each cleaning individually.

  • Ad-hoc cleanings are booked manually from Operations → Task Calendar → + New → Cleaning. They're one-time jobs that aren't tied to a rule or reservation and can be used for mid-stay cleans, deep cleans, or properties without an Autopilot rule.

Pricing, cancellation fees, and payout timing are the same for both types.

Can I use my cleaner for marketplace cleanings?

No. If you use Marketplace cleanings, Hospitable assigns a cleaner through Cleanster. You can rate completed cleanings to improve future cleaner assignments.

It isn't currently possible to use your own cleaner or manually choose a specific Cleanster cleaner.

Marketplace cleanings use cleaners assigned through Cleanster. You can't assign your own cleaner or manually select a specific Cleanster cleaner.

It says there are no cleaners in my area. What can I do?

There are two reasons you might see this message:

  1. Your property isn't eligible for Marketplace cleanings.

    • New properties aren't eligible for Marketplace cleanings. Properties that had not used Marketplace cleanings before July 2026 are also not eligible.

    • If Marketplace cleanings aren't available for your property, use one of Hospitable's supported cleaning integrations or create a manual cleaning task rule for your own cleaner.

  2. No cleaners are available for your requested time.

    • For eligible properties, Hospitable requests available cleaners from Cleanster based on the reservation's cleaning window.

    • A cleaner may already be booked or unavailable during that time.

    • You can check availability directly on https://cleanster.com/

I want to change the cleaner assigned to my task. How do I do this?

If you aren't happy with the cleaner assigned to your task, contact Cleanster Support and request a different cleaner.

You'll find Cleanster's contact details in the task confirmation email you received from Hospitable.

My cleaner took longer than scheduled. Will I be charged?

If the cleaner determines that the cleaning will take longer than scheduled, they must contact you first. You'll also see the option to approve the updated cleaning duration from the task details.

If you don't approve the additional time, you won't be charged for it.

Additional cleaning time isn't charged unless you approve the updated duration.

Where can I message the cleaner?

You can message your cleaner from the task details or from the Inbox.

You can open the task details from:

  • The Task Calendar

  • The Tasks section within the guest conversation

  • The reservation sidebar in the Inbox

On the day of the cleaning, you'll also see the task in the guest conversation.

After activating at least one Marketplace Autopilot cleaning task rule, an Operations Inbox segment will help you quickly find conversations with associated cleaning tasks.

Cleaner conversations are only available for Marketplace Autopilot cleaning tasks. They aren't supported for manual tasks or standard task rules.

What if the cleaner's access code does not work?

If the generated access code doesn't work, contact Hospitable Support.

Also verify the following:

  • Confirm that the access code is currently within its active time window.

  • If the cleaner arrives outside the scheduled access window, create a temporary Operations access code from Devices and share it with them.

  • Delete the temporary code after the cleaning is complete.

  • Let Hospitable Support know if you needed to create a manual code so the issue can be investigated.

How does Hospitable know how long the cleaning should take?

Hospitable uses your property details to estimate the cleaning duration through Cleanster.

Cleaning duration is based on the number of rooms:

  • Bedrooms

  • Living rooms

  • Kitchens

  • Offices

Bathrooms are rounded up when calculating the duration.

Marketplace cleanings have a minimum duration of 1.5 hours. If your cleanings regularly require less time, consider using a manual cleaning task instead

What is the new task checklist?

Marketplace cleanings start with an AI-generated checklist covering common cleaning areas, including:

  • Kitchen

  • Bathrooms

  • Bedrooms

  • Common areas

  • Laundry

  • Entry

  • Outdoor areas

  • Restocking

  • Final quality checks

You can review and edit the checklist before activating Marketplace cleanings.

Hospitable may also suggest additional checklist items or deep-clean tasks based on reservation details and guest sentiment. These suggestions always require host review before they're applied.

What about insurance in case there is damage to the property during the cleaning?

Marketplace bookings include damage protection of up to $5,000,000.

You should still maintain your own property and liability insurance and review all applicable policy terms and exclusions.

If damage occurs:

  1. Document the damage immediately with photos and notes.

  2. Report the issue through the task.

  3. Include before-and-after photos whenever possible to support the claims process.

Where are marketplace cleanings available?

Marketplace cleanings are available only for eligible properties located in the United States, excluding US territories such as Puerto Rico.

In addition:

  • Hosts on the Legacy plan aren't eligible for Marketplace cleanings.

  • New properties aren't eligible for Marketplace cleanings.

  • Properties that had not used Marketplace cleanings before July 2026 are also not eligible.

Marketplace cleaning availability depends on both property location and previous use of the service.

Can I set a fixed cleaning fee?

No. Marketplace cleaning prices are calculated automatically based on factors such as:

  • Cleaner availability

  • Marketplace demand

  • Weekends, holidays, and same-day turnovers

  • Travel distance

  • Local market rates

  • Approved add-ons or AI-suggested tasks

  • Taxes and fees

What if I already use Cleanster/Turno?

If you use a separate Cleanster or Turno connection outside Hospitable's Marketplace, disable cleaning task creation there before activating Marketplace cleanings.

Otherwise, duplicate cleaning tasks may be created for the same reservation.

When am I charged?

When a Marketplace cleaning is completed, the full cleaning cost is deducted from your Marketplace balance.

The payment is then distributed between:

  • Cleanster for cleaner payment and commission

  • Hospitable for commission

The cleaner did a bad job. What can I do?

Contact Cleanster Support at +1 (737) 377-2944 and provide the cleaning reference number.

You can find the cleaning reference number in the task details from:

  • The Task Calendar

  • The reservation sidebar

I would like to disable this option. How do I do it?

You can disable Cleanster from Hospitable:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Open Marketplace / Cleanings (Cleanster).

  3. Turn off Autopilot cleanings / Cleanster.

No new Marketplace cleaning tasks will be created after this.

If you already have Marketplace cleanings scheduled, open the task and select Cancel or Reschedule.

Cancellation fees may apply depending on how close the cancellation is to the scheduled cleaning.]

Who is eligible for Marketplace cleanings?

Marketplace cleanings are available only for eligible properties located in the US, excluding US territories such as Puerto Rico.

The following eligibility restrictions apply:

  • Hosts on the Legacy plan aren't eligible for Marketplace cleanings.

  • New properties aren't eligible for Marketplace cleanings.

  • Properties that had not used Marketplace cleanings before July 2026 aren't eligible.

If your property isn't eligible for Marketplace cleanings, use one of Hospitable's other cleaning integrations or create a manual cleaning task rule instead.

If Marketplace cleanings aren't shown as an option for your property, the property may not meet the current eligibility requirements.
