Setting up a Payment & payout Account

Learn how to add and manage payout methods for Hospitable Payments and Stripe-connected accounts.

Written by Dawn Ginie Santoyo

To receive payouts from reservations, upsells, security deposits, or marketplace transactions, you'll need to set up a payout method.

The setup process depends on how guest payments are processed:

  • Hospitable Payments: Add a bank account in Hospitable.

  • Stripe: Add and manage your payout account directly in Stripe.

This article explains when to use each option, how to add a payout method, and how payout accounts are assigned to properties.

Before You Start

The payout method you need depends on your payment processor.

Hospitable Payments

If Hospitable processes guest payments, payouts are sent to a bank account connected in Hospitable.

This includes:

  • Vrbo Partner reservations using Hospitable as Merchant of Record

  • Direct Premium reservations using Hospitable Payments

  • Upsells

  • Security deposits

  • Marketplace payouts

Hospitable currently supports payout accounts located in:

  • United States

  • United Kingdom

  • Australia

Stripe

If you use Stripe to process guest payments:

  • Guest payments are processed by Stripe

  • Payouts are sent directly by Stripe

  • Bank accounts are managed in Stripe

  • Verification is completed through Stripe

Bank accounts added in Hospitable are only used for Hospitable-managed payouts. If you use Stripe, your payout account must be configured directly in Stripe.

Add a Bank Account for Hospitable Payments

  1. Go to Settings → Payments & Payouts.

  2. Select the Accounts

  3. On the default Bank Accounts page, click Add bank account.

Payments & Payouts page showing the Bank accounts tab and Add bank account button

  1. Select whether the account belongs to:

    • An individual

    • A company

  2. Enter the required information:

    • Account holder name

    • Mobile phone number

    • Country of residence or business registration

    • Bank account nickname

  3. Choose how the account will be used:

    • As your default payout account

    • For specific properties

    • For specific payout types

  4. If applicable, select the properties that should use this account.

  5. Review the information.

  6. Click Save.

Assign Payout Accounts to Properties

You can use a single payout account for all properties or assign different payout accounts to specific properties.

This can be useful if:

  • You manage properties for multiple owners

  • Different properties use different bank accounts

  • You want payouts separated by business entity

When a payout account is assigned to a property, future payouts for that property will be sent to the selected account.

Verify Your Payout Method

After adding a bank account for Hospitable Payments, you may need to verify your identity and bank account before payouts can be released.

To verify your payout method:

  1. Go to Settings → Payments & payouts.

  2. On the Accounts tab, open the Bank accounts sub-tab.

  3. Find the bank account with the Needs verification badge.

  4. Click the ••• menu and select Verify bank account.

The Verify bank account action only appears when the account status is Needs verification. If the status is Pending, Adyen is still processing your previous submission. Wait for processing to finish before taking further action.

  5. You'll be redirected to Adyen's hosted onboarding page. Complete the requested verification steps.

The information Adyen requests varies by country and whether the account belongs to an individual or a business. You may be asked to:

    • Confirm or update identity or business details, such as your legal name, address, tax ID or EIN, and business roles such as owner or signatory.

    • Enter your bank account details.

    • Upload supporting documents, such as Articles of Organization or an IRS EIN letter for U.S. businesses.

    • Review and accept Adyen's terms.

  6. Submit the verification flow.

Adyen will process your submission and notify Hospitable when processing is complete. Once your verification is accepted, the bank account status changes to Active.

Can't complete verification yourself? From the same ••• menu, select Copy verification link or Send verification invite to send the verification flow to the person who needs to complete KYC.

Verification requirements depend on:

  • Your country

  • Whether the payout account belongs to an individual or a business

  • Applicable regulatory requirements

What happens to payouts while verification is pending?

You can continue accepting reservations while verification is pending, but your payouts may be held until verification is complete.

Once verification is complete:

  • Pending payouts: Payouts held only because KYC was incomplete are automatically queued for processing, usually within about 15 minutes. They will remain on hold if another issue is blocking them, such as a team-level or payout-method hold, a future payout date, unsettled guest payments, pending refunds, or a failed integrity check.

  • Failed payouts: These are not automatically retried in most cases. If a payout failed before verification was completed, contact support to retry it or reassign it to the newly verified payout method.

Completing verification only releases pending payouts that were held because of incomplete KYC. It does not override other payout holds or automatically retry most failed payouts.

Using Stripe Instead

If you use Stripe to process guest payments, payouts are handled through Stripe rather than Hospitable.

You'll need to:

  1. Connect a Stripe account.

  2. Complete any verification requirements requested by Stripe.

  3. Add a payout bank account in Stripe.

Hospitable does not manage:

  • Stripe payout methods

  • Stripe verification

  • Stripe payout schedules

  • Stripe account reviews

When using Stripe, payouts are sent directly by Stripe to your bank account. Refunds, payout timing, chargeback handling, and account verification are managed through your Stripe account.

Stripe Availability

Properties located in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia can choose between:

  • Hospitable Payments

  • Stripe

Properties outside these countries may still be eligible through Stripe if Stripe supports the country where the property is located.

Hosts can review Stripe's supported countries here: https://stripe.com/global

Payment processor eligibility is determined by the property's country. Properties located in countries supported by neither Hospitable Payments nor Stripe cannot process payments through Hospitable.

Managing Existing Payout Methods

From Settings → Payments & Payouts → Bank accounts, you can:

  • View your payout methods

  • Update property assignments

  • Set a default payout account

  • Review payout account status

  • Add additional payout methods

  • Delete payout methods that are no longer needed

Delete a Payout Method

To remove a payout method:

  1. Go to Settings → Payments & Payouts → Bank accounts.

  2. Locate the payout method you want to remove.

  3. Click the ••• menu on the payout method card.

  4. Select Delete payout method.

  5. Confirm the deletion.

If the payout method is assigned to properties or payout workflows, you'll need to reassign those payouts before the account can be removed.

A payout method cannot be deleted if it is currently being used as the default payout account or is assigned to active properties. Assign a different payout method first, then try again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer scheduled payouts to another payout method?

Yes. The original payout method does not need to be verified, but the destination payout method must be verified.

Before transferring scheduled payouts, make sure the destination payout method:

  • Is enabled

  • Is fully verified (KYC complete)

  • Has a working bank account attached

If the destination payout method is not verified, complete verification before transferring the payouts.

For payouts already assigned to a specific order or for failed payouts, the destination payout method must be verified before the transfer can be completed. Contact support if you're unsure which situation applies.

My bank account was closed. Do I need to add a new payout method?

No. In most cases, you can keep the same payout method and update its bank details.

  1. Go to Settings → Payouts.

  2. Open the affected bank account.

  3. Once payouts start failing because the account is closed, its status will change to Needs verification.

  4. Click Verify bank account and complete the verification flow using your new bank details.

Once the new bank account is verified, payouts will continue using the same payout method. Your property assignments, balance, and payout history will remain unchanged.

You only need to add a new payout method if you want a separate payout method, such as for a different legal entity or to split payouts by property. A closed bank account alone does not require a new payout method.

My payout is scheduled but hasn't been released. Why?

An unverified payout method is one possible reason a scheduled payout has not been released, but there can be other causes.

A payout may be held because:

  • Hospitable has placed a team-level or payout-method hold, for example during a review.

  • The payout date is still in the future.

  • The reservation has unsettled guest payments or pending refunds, which can push the payout date out.

  • Split-payout funding is not fully ready.

  • The payout has failed an integrity check.

  • The destination payout method has a missing or invalid bank account.

Completing verification automatically releases pending payouts that were held only because KYC verification was incomplete.

Completing verification will not release a payout that is blocked by a manual hold, a future payout date, unsettled funds, or another issue listed above.

If verification is complete and the payout still has not been released, contact support so we can check what is blocking it.

Can I use different bank accounts for different properties?

Yes. Payout accounts can be assigned to specific properties, allowing different properties to receive payouts in different bank accounts.

Can I have more than one payout account?

Yes. You can add multiple payout accounts and assign them to different properties or payout workflows.

Do I need to verify my payout account?

If you're using Hospitable Payments, verification may be required before payouts can be released.

For more information, see:

Can I use Stripe instead of a Hospitable payout account?

Yes. If Stripe is available in your country and selected as your payment processor, payouts are sent directly through Stripe.

Which countries support Hospitable payout accounts?

Hospitable Payments currently supports payout accounts located in:

  • United States

  • United Kingdom

  • Australia

What if my property is located in a country not supported by Hospitable Payments?

You may still be able to use Stripe if Stripe supports the country where the property is located.

See Stripe's supported country list: https://stripe.com/global

Where do I update my Stripe payout bank account?

Stripe payout methods are managed directly in Stripe. Changes made in Hospitable do not affect your Stripe payout settings.

Why do I need to re-verify my payout method?

Re-verifying your payout method on Hospitable may be required due to platform updates or changes in financial services. These updates often enable new features, such as the Top-Up capability, which allows users to fund their accounts for additional services. While newer payout methods include these features by default, older methods may require re-verification to ensure compliance with updated payment-provider requirements. This process is a quick check of a few details and not a full re-onboarding.

Why can't I delete a payout method?

A payout method cannot be deleted while it is being used for payouts.

Before deleting the payout method:

  • Assign a different default payout account if applicable

  • Reassign any properties using that payout method

  • Transfer any existing upcoming payouts to the new payout method (you'll need support to transfer these payouts, as it is not currently self-service)

Once the payout method is no longer in use, it can be removed.

In some cases, a payout method cannot be deleted even after you assign a new default account and reassign your properties. Two additional conditions can prevent deletion:

The payout method is linked to a Marketplace or all-properties scope. If the method was set up to cover Marketplace payments or all properties, it may remain blocked until the scope assignment is fully removed at the account level. If reassigning properties does not clear the block, contact support to remove the method.

The payout method is still attached to a security deposit hold on an active or recent reservation. Payout methods used to hold security deposits cannot be deleted until all reservations using that method for deposit processing are fully completed and closed. If you have a reservation with an open or recently released deposit, wait until it is fully resolved, then try deleting the method again.

If you have reassigned all properties and set a new default but the delete option is still blocked, contact support. Some payout method removals require action on the payment processor side that cannot be completed from your settings.
