This article explains what happens when you disconnect a Vrbo listing that is connected to Hospitable through the Vrbo Partner Connection. It covers the consequences on the Vrbo side, why disconnection is almost never the right action, and what to do instead if you're moving to a different property management system (PMS).
⚠️ Disconnecting your Vrbo Partner Connection has serious consequences on your Vrbo listings. In almost all cases, you should not disconnect. Read this article in full before taking any action.
Why You Shouldn't Disconnect Your Vrbo Partner Connection
The Vrbo Partner Connection is an official PMS integration with Vrbo. Once your listings are connected through it, Vrbo treats Hospitable as the property management system of record for those listings. Disconnecting is not a reversible "unplug and replug" action — it changes how Vrbo sees your listings and what data you can recover.
When you disconnect:
All reservation data Hospitable pulled from Vrbo is removed from Hospitable, including reservation details and financials.
The disconnect cannot be undone. Reconnecting later does not restore the historical reservations or their financial information.
Your listings on Vrbo can be unpublished or restricted while Vrbo processes the disconnection. The PMS-to-no-PMS transition on Vrbo is typically a manual process on Vrbo's.
Any future reservations Vrbo already has on the calendar may be affected, and you will lose the ability to manage them from Hospitable.
You cannot manually control the calendar from Hospitable during the disconnection window, which raises the risk of double bookings.
What Disconnection Means for Vrbo
Because Vrbo recognizes the Partner Connection as an official PMS integration, disconnecting on Hospitable's side is, from Vrbo's perspective, the equivalent of removing your PMS from your Vrbo account. That has follow-on effects on Vrbo that Hospitable cannot reverse for you:
Hosts get locked out of their own listings — but the listings stay live. Vrbo does not delist or hide the listings during disconnection. Instead, the listings remain visible and bookable on Vrbo, but the host loses the ability to receive new bookings into their PMS, communicate with ongoing guests, or cancel or alter existing reservations. The host stays locked out until Vrbo completes the decommissioning process on their side. This is a serious operational hazard for any active host and is the single biggest reason not to disconnect.
Historical financial data is not available on Vrbo's side and cannot be exported in a usable form. Reservations booked while a PMS was connected are missing key financial fields in the Vrbo API. Once disconnected, those reservations cannot be backfilled in Hospitable, in a new PMS, or in Vrbo's own host dashboard.
Owner Statements and Metrics will be incomplete for any reservation that was booked during the PMS-connected period. There is no way for Hospitable to repair this after the fact.
Vrbo's support team handles the disconnection manually. Hosts who initiate disconnection often need to contact Vrbo Partner Support to finish the process and to re-publish listings.
📌 Reservation financials for any booking made while a PMS was connected to Vrbo cannot be recovered after disconnection. This is a Vrbo limitation, not a Hospitable one.
When Disconnection Might be Appropriate
Disconnection is a destructive action and is rarely the right choice. The main reason for disconnecting Vrbo from a PMS connection is:
You are permanently leaving Vrbo as a channel and do not need historical reservation data in Hospitable.

Switching Property Management Systems Without Disconnecting Hospitable
If your reason for considering disconnection is that you are moving from Hospitable to another PMS, you do not need to delete the Hospitable connection to do that. Removing the Hospitable Partner Connection on Vrbo has the same destructive consequences described above and will leave you with gaps in your data and disrupted listings.
The safer path is to coordinate the migration so that your new PMS takes over while your Hospitable connection stays intact until the new system is ready.
Before you start
Download everything you need from Hospitable first. Export reservation data, guest messages, Owner Statements, Metrics reports, and any reporting you rely on. Once you migrate to a new PMS, you will not be able to pull this data back from Vrbo for the period your listings were PMS-connected.
Plan for a quiet period. PMS transitions on Vrbo are manual and can take 24–48 hours or longer, during which calendar control may be limited. Avoid running the migration during your busiest booking window.
Consider pausing Instant Book or temporarily unlisting on Vrbo during the transition to reduce the risk of double bookings while the integration changes hands.
Migrating to your new PMS
Set up your account and properties in the new PMS as far as possible without touching the Vrbo connection. Most PMSs let you configure listings, rates, and templates before you connect a channel.
Work with the new PMS's onboarding team to confirm exactly when they want the Vrbo PMS connection to change hands. They will usually coordinate directly with Vrbo Partner Support.
Contact Vrbo Partner Support to initiate the PMS switch on your Vrbo account. Vrbo handles the transition between PMS integrations on their side. Hospitable cannot perform this step for you.
Once Vrbo confirms the switch is complete and your listings are visible in the new PMS, verify that calendars, rates, and upcoming reservations look correct in the new system.
Wind down activity in Hospitable only after the new PMS is fully syned.
🚫 Do not delete the Vrbo Partner Connection from Hospitable as part of switching PMS. Vrbo handles PMS-to-PMS transitions on their side, and deleting the connection from Hospitable will trigger the disconnection consequences described above.
FAQs
Can I reconnect my Vrbo Partner Connection after disconnecting?
Can I reconnect my Vrbo Partner Connection after disconnecting?
Reconnecting later does not restore the reservation data, financials, or historical activity that was removed when you disconnected. You may also need Vrbo Partner Support to re-enable the PMS integration on your Vrbo account before reconnection is possible.
Will my future reservations still arrive in Hospitable after disconnecting?
Will my future reservations still arrive in Hospitable after disconnecting?
No. Once the connection is removed, new reservations on those Vrbo listings will no longer sync to Hospitable. Existing future reservations may be affected by the disconnection process on Vrbo's side.
