Why Your Vrbo Account Isn't Yet Eligible to Upgrade to the Vrbo Partner Connection

What it means when the Vrbo Partner upgrade is unavailable for your account, and what happens next.

Written by Kelly

If your Vrbo account contains one or more listings from Vrbo's older listing catalog — the catalog previously known as HomeAway, including some regional Vrbo sites — the upgrade to the Vrbo Partner Connection is temporarily unavailable on your account. Some of these older listings still display as Vrbo on the Vrbo site, so the HomeAway label alone isn't a reliable way to tell.

If this applies to you, you'll see a greyed-out Upgrade available soon button instead of an Upgrade button. This article explains why, what we're doing about it, and what we recommend in the meantime.

The "upgrade available soon" button next to a Vrbo channel that is currently unavailable to upgrade to Vrbo Partner due to HomeAway listings

Note: This affects Vrbo Partner only. The Vrbo Legacy connection continues to work normally — your reservations, calendar, and messages keep syncing as they always have. If you're new to Hospitable, you can also use the Legacy connection if your Vrbo channel is currently ineligible to upgrade.

Why the upgrade is blocked

The Vrbo Partner Connection uses Vrbo's official API, which does not automatically carry over listings from the older HomeAway catalog. Therefore, in order to connect, your listings need to be manually migrated.

To ensure your reviews are maintained and reservations are synced, a detailed process must be followed. While we build a smooth connection path, accounts with HomeAway-era listings are not yet eligible to upgrade.

ℹ️ If your old HomeAway listings are not active, and you are happy for them to be removed from your account, the Hospitable support team may be able to help you upgrade to the Vrbo Partner connection.

This should only be done if you are happy with the HomeAway listings getting removed!

How to check whether this applies to you

Some listings that display Vrbo above the listing ID are still in the older listing catalog behind the scenes — most commonly, listings originally created on regional Vrbo sites (for example, Vrbo Canada). If you're unsure, the most reliable check is the greyed-out Upgrade available soon button on your Channel connections page in Hospitable.

On Hospitable

This is the definitive check. If the button is greyed out, the upgrade pause applies to your account, regardless of what the Vrbo interface shows above each listing.

  1. Navigate to Channel connections.

  2. If you see an "upgrade available soon" button in place of an "upgrade" button, your account is currently ineligible.

On Vrbo (supporting check only)

This is a supporting check that can help you understand which listings are involved, but it can miss some cases (see the callout above).

  1. Sign in to your Vrbo Owner Dashboard.

  2. Open each of your listings on Vrbo and look at the small label shown above the listing ID.

  3. A HomeAway label confirms the account is affected — that listing is in the older catalog, and the upgrade will be paused on the entire account.

  4. A Vrbo label does not rule it out. Some older listings — particularly those originally created on regional Vrbo sites such as Vrbo Canada — still live in the older catalog even though the Vrbo interface labels them as Vrbo.

  5. The Hospitable check above is the authoritative signal. If the Upgrade available soon button is greyed out in Hospitable but every listing shows Vrbo on Vrbo, your account is still affected — one or more of those Vrbo-labeled listings are legacy-catalog listings.

  6. If the Hospitable check shows the account is not affected, but you're still unable to upgrade, see Vrbo Partner Connection: Troubleshooting Connection Issues.

What we're doing about it

In order to ensure a smooth transition, we are actively building a guided onboarding process for hosts with HomeAway listings.

This will help you recreate the affected listings, coordinate the review transfer with Vrbo, and prevent gaps in your calendar.

What we recommend in the meantime

  • Keep using your existing Vrbo Legacy connection. It remains fully functional — bookings, calendar sync, and messaging continue to work.

  • Do not delete or recreate your HomeAway-era listings on Vrbo on your own before our guided setup process is available. Doing so on your own can cause reviews to be lost and can leave your calendar in an inconsistent state.

  • Hold off on the upgrade. When it's ready, the Upgrade to Vrbo Partner option will appear on your Channel connections page automatically.

FAQs

My listings all show as Vrbo — why is the upgrade still blocked?

Some listings originally created on Vrbo's older regional sites (for example, Vrbo Canada) still live in the older listing catalog even though the Vrbo interface labels them as Vrbo. These are treated the same as HomeAway-labelled listings by the upgrade eligibility check, so a single one of them will pause the upgrade for your whole account.

If you're seeing the greyed-out Upgrade available soon button in Hospitable but every listing on Vrbo shows Vrbo above its ID, this is almost certainly what's going on. Reach out to Hospitable support — we can confirm which listings are legacy-catalog on your account.

Will I lose my reviews when I eventually upgrade?

No. There will be a review transfer, so the reviews attached to your HomeAway listing will be carried over to the newly created Vrbo listing after following up . Your reputation travels with you.

Will my bookings or calendar be affected while I wait?

No. As long as it remains connected, your existing Vrbo Legacy (Google Chrome) connection continues to sync reservations, calendar, and messages as normal. The pause only affects the upgrade path to the new Partner Connection.

Can I connect only my newer listings, and connect the HomeAway listings later?

No. The upgrade pause is applied at the account level.
