Adding Custom Codes To a Messaging Rule

I've created a custom code, but how do I make sure it gets sent to my guests?

With Custom codes, you can include small bits of text or whole paragraphs that you can insert into your templates. Unlike short codes, they are not meant to be replaced by some data from your listing platforms or reservation automatically but by your own text.

Your custom codes will not be shown to your guests unless they are included in a messaging rule.

When added to a messaging rule, the custom code will either trigger and be sent to your guests or not, depending on the condition of the custom code and/or scoping and whether or not those are met by the guest's reservation.

Custom codes always start and end with "%%", to distinguish them from our system short codes, which start and end with just one "%". Custom codes are also highlighted in pink, as opposed to green for short codes.

To include custom codes in your templates go to:

  1. Hospitable > Guest experience

  2. Messaging rules

  3. Click on the rule that you want to include your custom code in

  4. Click inside the text box where you would like the custom code's text to appear, and type "%%" followed by the name you gave your custom code

  5. Keep typing to search in that list. You will see a list of the short codes and custom codes available for this rule.

  6. Click on the custom code or press Enter to include the custom code in your template

And that's it! You've input the custom code into your messaging rule, and we will make sure to include that text in your message if the custom code's condition and scoping is met by your guest's reservation and situation.
