Messaging Rule Scoping

What does the scoping do, and how should I set that up on my messaging rules?

Scoping dictates what platform and property a messaging rule, custom code, or question rule is relevant to.

If the scoping on the message doesn’t match the booked platform, property, or host profile, then the message will not be sent.

Scoping can be found at the bottom of the page of a specific messaging rule, custom code, or question rule:

Platform scoping

If a guest books a stay on Booking.com, then the message will only be relevant to their reservation and sent to the guest if Booking.com is selected in the scoping of the messaging rule, custom code, or question rule.

The same goes for guests who booked on Airbnb, VRBO, Direct, or on reservations that you manually input into Hospitable.

Host scoping

Now that you’ve selected the relevant platform, you also need to select and scope the relevant host.

The guest booked their stay on a specific channel or listing of yours. The host in the rule’s scoping must match the host profile which whom the guest booked, in order for the message to be relevant.

Property scoping

Finally, you need to make sure to scope the property you want the message to apply to.

See more on property-specific messaging here.

Airbnb host scoping

For Airbnb, you can scope either the co-host or listing admin of the listing the guest booked.

If you scope both the co-host and listing admin, then we will default to sending the message from the listing admin. See more here.

Booking.com, VRBO host scoping

The correct host profile must be scoped for every listing that the rule is relevant to.

For example, if you have multiple VRBO channels connected to your Hospitable account, then you must make sure to scope the correct VRBO host profile to the messaging rule. If you only have Host 1 scoped to the rule, but the guest books a stay on a listing from Host 2’s VRBO account, then the message will not be sent. That’s even if the VRBO platform is scoped to the rule.

For Booking.com, the host name is the name of the listing. This is currently not editable.

Direct, Manual host scoping

Your Hospitable host profile is automatically scoped to the messaging rule if you have select one or both of the Direct or Manual platforms.

The name of that host profile is the name you have your Hospitable account set up as.
