Vrbo Partner Connection: Discounts and Promotions

Learn how to manage supported Vrbo discounts in Hospitable and understand how discount changes are applied to your listings.

Vrbo discounts can be managed directly from Hospitable for properties connected through the Vrbo Partner Connection.

When a listing is connected to Hospitable, Vrbo removes the ability to manage discounts from the Vrbo owner dashboard. Hospitable becomes the place where discount settings are configured and synchronized to Vrbo.

This article explains which discounts are currently available, which discounts are planned for a future release, how to configure supported discounts, and what to expect after making changes.

This article only covers discounts available for Vrbo Partner listings. Direct bookings support separate discount settings that are managed elsewhere in Hospitable.


Before You Start

When a property is connected to the Vrbo Partner Connection, existing Vrbo discounts are not automatically imported into Hospitable.

Hosts should review and recreate any promotions they want to continue using after connecting the property.

Newly connected properties start with no active discounts. Existing Vrbo discount configurations are not automatically restored when the property is connected to Hospitable.


Accessing Vrbo Discounts

To manage discounts for a Vrbo Partner listing:

  1. Go to Properties → Discounts.

  2. Select the discount tab you wish to update.

A Vrbo badge appears next to the Discounts menu item to indicate that the page manages Vrbo-specific discounts.

From this page, you can review and configure any discounts available for the selected listing.


Available Discount Types

Hospitable currently supports the following Vrbo discount types.

Early Booking

Rewards guests who book well in advance.

Configure:

  • Discount percentage

  • Minimum booking window

Guests must book between 60 and 500 days before arrival to qualify.

Last-Minute Discount

Encourages bookings closer to the check-in date.

Configure:

  • Discount percentage

  • Booking window before arrival

Guests must book between 0 and 30 days before check-in to qualify.

Weekly Discount

Applies a discount to longer stays.

Configure:

  • Discount percentage

  • Minimum stay length

Hosts can create multiple discount tiers for different stay lengths.

Monthly Discount

Applies a discount to extended stays.

Configure:

  • Discount percentage

  • Minimum stay length

Hosts can create multiple discount tiers for different stay lengths.

Preferred Guest Pricing

Offers discounted pricing to eligible members of Vrbo's loyalty program.

Hosts can configure separate discount percentages for:

  • Blue members

  • Silver members

  • Gold members

Gold pricing also applies to Platinum members automatically.

These discounts are only visible to eligible loyalty program members.

Preferred Guest Pricing always uses three tiers: Blue, Silver, and Gold. These tiers cannot be added, removed, or renamed

Mobile Discount

Applies a discount to guests booking through the Vrbo mobile app.

Mobile discounts are not displayed in Vrbo desktop search results.

Mobile Discount supports a single tier only.

New Listing Promotion

New Vrbo Partner listings can opt into a one-time promotion that offers:

  • 20% off

  • For the first 3 bookings

This option is available during the listing creation process.

The New Listing Promotion is only available for eligible new Vrbo listings and can only be used once.


Enable or Disable a Discount

To enable or disable a discount:

  1. Open the applicable discount tab.

  2. Configure the discount settings.

  3. Use the toggle to enable or disable the discount.

  4. Click Save.

Disabling a discount does not remove it from Vrbo.

Instead, Hospitable marks the promotion as inactive. The discount can be reactivated at any time.

Vrbo does not allow promotions to be permanently deleted. Disabling a discount simply marks it as inactive.

Using Multiple Discount Tiers

Early Booking, Last-Minute, Weekly, and Monthly discounts support multiple tiers.

Each tier creates a separate promotion in Vrbo.

For example:

  • 10% off bookings made 60 or more days before arrival

  • 15% off bookings made 90 or more days before arrival

Hosts can create multiple tiers to offer larger discounts as booking requirements become more restrictive.

Discount tiers cannot conflict. Higher discount percentages must use stricter qualification requirements than lower discount tiers.


Date-Specific Overrides

All supported Vrbo promotion types support date-specific overrides.

Overrides allow you to apply a different discount percentage during a specific date range.

Examples:

  • Standard Early Booking discount: 10%

  • Holiday Early Booking discount: 20%

  • Standard Mobile Discount: 5%

  • Summer Mobile Discount: 10%

Blocked Dates

Blocked Dates allow you to temporarily suspend all active discounts during a specific date range.

Guests booking dates within a blocked period will not receive any active discounts and will instead see the standard rate.

You can create multiple blocked date ranges.

Blocked Dates do not remove or change discount configurations. They simply pause discount application during the selected period.

How Vrbo Applies Multiple Discounts

A reservation may qualify for more than one discount.

Vrbo determines which discounts are applied according to its promotion rules.

Important behaviors include:

  • Mobile Discounts can be combined with Early Booking, Last-Minute, and Preferred Guest Pricing.

  • If a reservation qualifies for both an Early Booking and Last-Minute discount, Vrbo applies whichever provides the greater savings.

Discount stacking and prioritization are controlled by Vrbo and cannot be customized in Hospitable.


Saving and Syncing Changes

Each discount tab has its own Save and Discard Changes buttons.

Saving changes in one tab does not affect settings in other tabs.

After saving:

  • Hospitable saves the discount configuration immediately.

  • A confirmation message is displayed.

  • The update is synchronized to Vrbo in the background.

Synchronization usually completes within a few seconds but may occasionally take longer.

If synchronization fails:

  • The configuration remains saved in Hospitable.

  • Hospitable automatically retries the synchronization.

If changes do not appear immediately on Vrbo, wait a few minutes and refresh the listing before making additional updates.


Discount Availability and Limitations

The Discounts page is only available for properties with an active Vrbo Partner connection.

Hospitable currently supports:

  • Early Booking

  • Last-Minute

  • Weekly Discount

  • Monthly Discount

  • Preferred Guest Pricing

  • Mobile Discount

  • Blocked Dates

  • New Listing Promotion

The following are not currently supported:

  • Fixed-amount discounts (for example, $20 off)

  • Day-of-week discounts

  • Managing discounts across multiple properties at once

Direct bookings support separate discount settings managed elsewhere in Hospitable. This page only manages Vrbo discounts.


Troubleshooting

Why can't I see the Discounts page?

The Discounts page only appears for properties with an active Vrbo Partner connection.

If the property is not connected to Vrbo, the Discounts menu will not be displayed.

My discount changes aren't showing on Vrbo

Changes are synchronized in the background after saving.

Wait a few minutes and refresh the listing before making additional changes.

I turned off a discount. Will it come back?

Turning off a discount marks it as inactive on Vrbo.

You can reactivate it at any time by enabling the discount again and saving your changes.

Can I apply discounts to existing reservations?

No. Discount changes only affect future bookings that qualify after the changes are saved.

Can I set different discounts for specific dates?

Yes. Supported discount types allow date-specific overrides so you can offer different discount percentages during selected date ranges.

Why did a guest still receive a discount during blocked dates?

Blocked Dates only affect bookings made after the blocked date range is saved. Existing reservations retain the pricing and discounts that applied when the reservation was booked.

Do discount changes sync automatically to Vrbo?

Yes. After saving, Hospitable synchronizes the discount configuration to Vrbo automatically.

Are discounts configured per property?

Yes. Discounts are managed individually for each property.

Can I disable a discount without deleting it?

Yes. Supported discount types allow date-specific overrides for specific date ranges.

Can I pause all discounts without disabling them individually?

Yes. Use Blocked Dates to temporarily suspend all active discounts for a selected date range.
