It's now easy for hosts to make adjustments on Direct reservations, whether it's returning a partial refund or requesting an additional payment. While both adjustments and alterations result in partial refunds or additional charges, you should continue to use alterations to make changes to a reservation's details (eg. check-in/out dates or number of guests).

Ad hoc refunds

You can choose to send money to your guest at any point after accepting the reservation, up to fourteen days after the reservation ends, either checkout or cancellation, provided your account has a sufficient balance.

How to send money

  1. Open the reservation from your Hospitable inbox

  2. In the inner left sidebar, click on Send or request money

  3. Select Send a refund

  4. Enter the amount you would like to refund

  5. Confirm the refund

It may take a couple minutes before you see the refund documented in the inbox Pricing Details and on your Payout History page.

How it works with Direct Premium

When setting the refund amount, Hospitable displays the maximum refundable amount, which is the lower value of either the amount paid by the guest or the current balance of the payout method.

The money can only be drawn from the payout method associated with the reservation, so you will need to have sufficient funds on your account. If the reservation has already paid out, you can draw from other existing reservations on the same payout method, with the money deducted from your next payout. Given sufficient funds, you may return up to the full amount paid by the guest.

How it works with Direct Basic

You can issue a refund up to the total amount paid by the guest. Hospitable does not, however, validate that you have sufficient funds in the associated Stripe account to cover the refund, as Stripe will allow customers' accounts to have a negative balance. Refunds may fail if Stripe refuses the transaction due to insufficient balance.

Ad hoc charges

You can request an additional payment from your guest at any point after accepting the reservation, up to fourteen days after the reservation ends, either checkout or cancellation, provided your account has a sufficient balance.

How to collect additional payments

  1. Open the reservation from your Hospitable inbox

  2. In the inner left sidebar, click on Send or request money

  3. Select Request payment

  4. Enter the amount you would like to collect

  5. Confirm your payment request

Hospitable will email a payment link to your guest. The guest can enter the CVC of their card on file, or use a different card. When the payment is successfully captured, you'll see it documented as an event in your Inbox conversation thread. You'll also see it updated in the reservation's payment details and on your payout history page.

Taxes & fees

For Premium reservations, Hospitable will deduct any applicable taxes and the 7% service fee from the amount collected. For Basic reservations, Stripe will deduct payment processing fees as usual, and we will calculate any taxes you have scoped to Miscellaneous fees (adjustments) and update them in your Metrics Taxes report.
