What Is a Limited Connection?
A limited connection is when you haven't connected Hospitable to your Airbnb account on the full property management software scope (PMS scope).
Due to requirements from Airbnb, if you don't connect a software like Hospitable to your Airbnb listing on a full PMS scope, features such as listing detail management, calendar blocking, pricing updates, and setting minimum night stays are disabled.
This means Hospitable has no control over your Airbnb calendar, and can lead to an increased risk of double bookings or availability errors.
Who Should Utilize a Limited Airbnb Connection?
If you use another management software with Airbnb, you'll need to use a limited connection with Hospitable.
Hospitable offers a limited connection for hosts who want to use Hospitable alongside other property management software. This is offered because Airbnb only allows one software provider to be the source of truth on your calendar.
You can, however, use one software connection to manage your calendar and listing details, and use a different one to manage your guest communication.
So, if you want to use a different software to control your Airbnb calendar and listing details, and Hospitable to manage your automated guest communication, you need to use the limited connection.
What is "limited" on Hospitable's limited connection with Airbnb?
While on a Limited Connection:
Hospitable will not be able to manage your listing details and settings. We will not be able to push changes that you make on Hospitable or in other booking platforms over to Airbnb.
Hospitable will not push calendar updates made on Hospitable or other booking platform calendars to Airbnb.
If you have manual or Direct bookings, you must export your property's iCal feed to your booking platforms to ensure that bookings are added to your OTA calendars or other property management software.
Hospitable will pull reservations from Airbnb. You can use Hospitable for messaging, smart devices, operations, etc.
If Airbnb is your lead listing, Hospitable will still pull calendar data into Hospitable to display. However, editing your calendar on Hospitable will not mean your updates get pushed out.
You will see a yellow "Calendar Restricted" label on your Connected Accounts page next to all accounts on a limited connection.
You will see the same badge on your listing when you open up a property on the Hospitable > Properties page, which contains an Airbnb listing on a limited connection.
Risks and Limitations
A limited connection is not generally recommended for managing your listings due to the potential for synchronization issues and double bookings. Calendar changes made on Hospitable will not be pushed to your airbnb calendar.
How to Set a Limited Connection
If you already have other property management software connected to your Airbnb account and try to connect to Hospitable normally, the connection will fail.
Your choice is either to disconnect your other software or use our limited connection.
To connect a new Airbnb channel on a Limited Connection:
Confirm that you are logged in to your Airbnb account in another tab
From Hospitable, click on Connected Accounts
Click on Connect with Airbnb
In the new window, select the option at the bottom of the screen for hosts who already have software connected to their Airbnb
Click Limited connection.
Confirm the connection on the following screen
New Users: Adjustments To Make
Automated messages are enabled if you choose the "Jumpstart" onboarding option during your Hospitable account setup. This could cause a duplicate message if you already have messages configured with your existing software.
Since automated messaging is one of the strongest features of our system, we suggest configuring your Hospitable messaging and then disabling your automated messages on any other systems. This way, you can test our messaging performance and understand our reliability.
To downgrade an Airbnb channel already connected to Hospitable:
Log in to the Airbnb channel you wish to downgrade
Once logged in, go to Hospitable > Connected Accounts
Next to the channel, click Edit and Downgrade to limited connection
Confirm the downgrade on the following screen
Upgrading to a Full Connection
If you decide later that you want Hospitable to manage your Airbnb calendar, you will need to disconnect any other property management software and then connect your Airbnb account to upgrade to our full connection. To upgrade:
Log in to your Airbnb account using a web browser.
In the same browser session, open your Hospitable.com account.
Navigate to the "Connected Accounts" section.
Locate your Airbnb channel and click "Upgrade."
Upgrading restores listing and calendar management and availability-blocking features, ensuring better synchronization across your channels.
Co-hosted Listings
All cohosted listings are required to have the Listing Owner connected in order to be claimed on an upgraded connection. Listings without a connected Listing Owner will be calendar-restricted. In order to upgrade the connection, you'll need to invite the listing owner to connect on a full connection.
Key Takeaways
A limited Airbnb connection does not manage availability, pricing, or calendar settings.
Upgrading to a full connection enables complete control and synchronisation, minimising booking conflicts.
