‼️ The Marketplace cleaning option is being phased out for most hosts. It remains available only for eligible Marketplace properties, including hosts with previous or upcoming Marketplace cleaning bookings. New properties are no longer eligible.
What Are Marketplace Cleanings?
Marketplace cleanings are turnovers managed by Hospitable through Cleanster, Hospitable’s cleaning partner. Hospitable finds a vetted local cleaner, schedules the job, displays updates, and pays for the cleaning from your prepaid Marketplace balance after the cleaning is complete. You can schedule cleanings automatically with an Autopilot cleaning task rule or book individual cleanings as needed.
Eligibility
Marketplace cleanings remain available for properties with previous or upcoming Marketplace cleaning bookings that meet these requirements:
The property is in the United States. US territories, including Puerto Rico, are excluded.
The property used Marketplace cleanings before July 2026.
The host is not on the Legacy plan.
If Marketplace cleanings do not appear as an option for your property, the property does not meet the eligibility requirements. Use another Hospitable cleaning integration or a manual cleaning task rule instead.
How Marketplace Cleans Work
You can use Marketplace cleanings in two ways: automatically after reservations or on demand.
Option 1: Autopilot Cleaning
An Autopilot cleaning task rule automatically creates after-checkout cleaning tasks for future reservations.
To create a rule:
Go to Operations → Task Management.
Select Add task rule to open the task rule setup.
Select Cleaning, then Continue, and choose the eligible property.
Under cleaner assignment, select Find a cleaner for me.
Review and edit the AI-generated checklist.
Complete the schedule and property access settings. Choose whether to apply the rule to existing reservations.
Activate the rule.
Once the rule is active, cleaning tasks are created automatically, and Cleanster matches a cleaner in your area to each job.
Note: Marketplace cleaning task rules are permanently linked to the property selected during setup. Create a separate task rule for each additional eligible property.
Option 2: Ad-Hoc Cleaning
Book an ad-hoc cleaning when you need an individual cleaning rather than an automatically scheduled turnover.
Go to Operations → Task Calendar.
Select + New → Cleaning.
Select the property and set the cleaning’s start and end times.
Select Find a cleaner for me to send the job to the Marketplace.
Cleanster matches an available cleaner to the job. Ad-hoc cleanings use the same per-clean rate as Autopilot cleanings for that property and follow the same pricing, cancellation, and payout rules.
What Each Task Includes
Marketplace cleaning tasks include:
An AI-generated checklist covering the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, common areas, laundry, entry, outdoor areas, restocking, and final quality checks.
Property access instructions or a smart lock code, depending on your access settings.
Estimated cleaning hours and cost.
You receive an Inbox notification when the cleaner is on their way. After the cleaning, the task is marked complete with photos and checklist results attached.
Property Access
The Property access setting on a Marketplace cleaning task rule determines how the cleaner enters the property:
Smart lock: Hospitable generates an Operations code for the assigned cleaner. The code is valid during the task window, plus a small buffer. To send the code, use a task notification rule with the
%operations_smartlock_code%shortcode.Other access: Hospitable does not generate a code. Provide instructions for a key, lockbox, or another access method.
Note: Switching a rule from Smart lock to Other access does not remove codes that have already been generated. Existing codes remain on the lock until they expire or you delete them manually under Devices → Smart Locks → Operations codes.
For more information about task rule setup, see Task Rules: How to Create a Task Rule
When a Cleaner Cannot Access the Property
Provide clear access instructions when setting up each task. Access instructions are required if no smart lock is connected. Cleaners can contact you through chat if they have trouble entering.
If a smart lock code does not work, check whether the cleaner is using it within its active time window.
If the cleaner arrives outside the scheduled window:
Create a temporary Operations code from Devices.
Share the code with the cleaner.
Delete the temporary code after the cleaning.
Contact Hospitable Support so the access issue can be investigated.
Cleaner Preference
You cannot choose a specific cleaner for Marketplace cleanings. Cleanster matches cleaners based on distance to the property, availability, past performance, and whether you have previously favorited or rejected them.
After a completed task, you can favorite the cleaner to prioritize them for future jobs at that property. You can also rate, tip, and review cleaners after each task.
Cleanster does not have cleaners in every area. In low-coverage areas, you may be matched with only one or two cleaners, or none if no cleaner is available at your requested time. Check availability directly at cleanster.com
Requesting a Different Cleaner
To request a different cleaner, contact Cleanster Support at +1 (737) 377-2944.
Provide the cleaning reference number from the task details. You can open the task details from the Task Calendar or the reservation sidebar. Cleanster’s contact details are also included in your task confirmation email.
Cleaning Duration and Pricing
Hospitable estimates cleaning duration through Cleanster using your property details, including bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and offices. Bathroom counts are rounded up when calculating the duration.
Marketplace cleanings have a minimum duration of 1.5 hours. If your cleanings regularly need less time, consider using a manual cleaning task rule with your own cleaner.
Prices are calculated automatically. You cannot set a fixed cleaning fee. Pricing factors include:
Cleaner availability and Marketplace demand.
Weekends, holidays, and same-day turnovers.
Travel distance and local market rates.
Approved add-ons or AI-suggested tasks.
Taxes and fees.
Approving Extra Cleaning Time
If a cleaner needs more time, they must contact you first. Open the task details to approve the updated duration.
You can adjust task hours during the cleaning or up to 24 hours after the cleaning.
Cleaners cannot extend task hours on their own. You are not charged for extra time unless you approve it.
How Marketplace Cleaning Payments Work
Marketplace cleanings use a prepaid balance. When you create your first Autopilot cleaning task, Hospitable shows the cost per clean and the required prepayment.
You prepay 2× the cost per clean, enough to cover your next two cleanings. The balance is designed to stay one clean ahead.
After each completed cleaning:
The full cleaning cost is deducted from your balance. This covers the cleaner’s payment and commissions for Cleanster and Hospitable.
Your saved payment method is automatically charged to restore the balance to 2× the per-clean cost.
Automatic top-up funds can take up to 2 days to appear in your Marketplace balance.
For example, a $97.50 cleaning reduces a $195.00 balance to $97.50. An automatic $97.50 top-up restores the balance to $195.00 once the funds arrive.
For details about balance and top-up statuses, see Managing Your Marketplace Balance and Top-Ups
Choosing the Bank Account for Top-Ups
If you have multiple connected bank accounts, you can choose which one funds Marketplace cleanings at three levels:
Marketplace default: Set the default account under Settings → Payments & Payouts → Marketplace. This account is used when no task-rule or task-level override applies.
Per task rule: Go to Operations → Task Rules, then create or edit your cleaning rule. Select the account that funds tasks generated by that rule. This overrides the Marketplace default for that rule.
Per task: Go to Operations → Task Management and open the task. Select the account for that individual task. This overrides both the task-rule and Marketplace defaults.
Top-ups are charged to—and withdrawals are returned to—the bank account that applies to the task.
❗ Funds are pulled up to 5 days before the cleaner is paid. Once a task is funded, its bank account and payout are locked. Changing the bank account does not redirect an already-funded payout; account changes apply only to future tasks that have not yet been funded.
Cancellations and Rescheduling
Open the cleaning task in the Task Calendar to cancel or reschedule it.
Rescheduling is free, including last-minute changes, as long as the cleaner accepts the new time slot.
Cancellation fees depend on when you cancel:
More than 24 hours before the cleaning: No fee.
Within 24 hours of the cleaning: A $20 fee applies unless the full-cost cancellation rule below applies.
Within 2 hours of the cleaning, or after the cleaner has arrived: The full cleaning cost is charged.

Messaging Your Cleaner
For Marketplace Autopilot cleaning tasks, you can message your cleaner from the task details or the Inbox.
Open task details from:
The Task Calendar.
The Tasks section within the guest conversation.
The reservation sidebar in the Inbox.
On the day of the cleaning, the task also appears in the guest conversation.
After you activate at least one Marketplace Autopilot cleaning task rule, the Operations Inbox segment helps you find conversations with associated cleaning tasks.
Cleaner conversations are available only for Marketplace Autopilot cleaning tasks. They are not supported for manual tasks or standard task rules.
If damage or an issue is found during a cleaning
Marketplace cleanings include a built-in problem-reporting workflow so anything the cleaner notices — damage, missing items, or maintenance issues — is captured on the task itself.
What the cleaner does
If a cleaner finds a problem while on-site, they report it directly:
From the Cleanster app, using Report a Problem, or
From the Hospitable Tasks mobile app, using Report an issue on the task.
Reports include a title, description, and photos.
What you see
Open the cleaning task from Operations → Task Calendar (or from the reservation sidebar in the Inbox). Any items the cleaner reported appear on the task overview:
Under Problems noted by your cleaner (from the Cleanster app), or
Under Issues reported (from the Hospitable Tasks app).
Tap a card to open the full report with photos and details. You can also review reported issues across all your tasks under Operations → Overview → Reported issues.
What to do next
Review the reported problem and photos on the task.
Document any additional damage yourself with dated photos before the next check-in.
Contact Hospitable Support if you need help resolving the issue or escalating to Cleanster.
Maintain your own property and liability insurance and review all applicable policy terms and exclusions. Marketplace cleanings are performed by independent Cleanster cleaners; coverage terms are set by Cleanster's user agreement.
How to Stop Using Marketplace Cleanings
Step 1: Turn Off Autopilot Cleanings
Go to Settings.
Open Marketplace / Cleanings (Cleanster).
Turn off Autopilot cleanings / Cleanster.
This stops new Marketplace cleaning tasks from being created.
You can also delete or deactivate individual Autopilot cleaning task rules under Operations → Task Rules.
Step 2: Cancel Pending Tasks or Remove Their Payments
Go to Operations → Task Calendar → Upcoming Tasks. For each pending task, choose one of these options:
Cancel the task if the cleaning is no longer needed. Marketplace cancellation fees may apply.
Set the payment amount to $0 to keep the task active but handle payment outside Hospitable, such as through Venmo, Zelle, or cash.
❗ Important: Hospitable reserves Marketplace balance funds for any task with a payment amount greater than $0. You cannot withdraw your balance until all pending tasks are canceled or their payment amounts are set to $0.
Step 3: Withdraw Your Marketplace Balance
After canceling pending tasks or setting their payment amounts to $0:
Go to Settings → Payments & Payouts → Marketplace.
Select the … menu next to Prepaid Balance.
Select Withdraw.
Funds are returned to the applicable linked bank account, typically within 3–5 business days.
What about money already paid out to teammates?
Hospitable does not have a built-in reversal or refund option for payments already approved and sent to a teammate. Arrange repayment or a credit toward a future task directly with the teammate.
