Understanding Reviews on Your Direct Site

Learn how reviews are collected, selected, and displayed on your direct booking site

Written by Dawn Ginie Santoyo

Reviews on your direct booking site help build trust by showcasing feedback from previous guests. Hospitable automatically collects and displays reviews based on specific criteria.

This article explains where reviews come from, how they are selected, and what you can and cannot control.

Where Reviews Come From

Reviews displayed on your direct site are collected from:

  • Airbnb

  • Booking.com

  • Direct bookings through Hospitable

After a Direct stay, guests are invited to leave a review through the Guest Portal.

How Reviews Are Selected

Not all reviews are shown on your site.

Hospitable selects reviews based on:

  • Reviews with at least 30 words

  • 5-star reviews with strong positive content

  • The most recent reviews

AI is used to prioritize higher-quality review content.

You cannot manually choose which reviews appear on your site.

How Reviews Are Displayed

Reviews are automatically displayed on your site in the following areas:

  • Homepage (for multi-property sites, below the hero section)

  • Property pages (above the property location section)

Your site will:

  • Show 2 reviews at a time

  • Allow guests to scroll through more

  • Display up to 20 reviews total

  • Prioritize the most recent reviews first

What You Can and Cannot Control

You can:

  • Encourage guests to leave reviews

  • Improve guest experience to generate better feedback

You cannot:

  • Manually select or remove reviews

  • Edit review content

  • Disable the reviews section

  • Control review order beyond recency

The reviews section is always enabled and cannot be removed from your site.

How Guests Leave Reviews

After checkout:

  • Guests receive an email asking them to review their stay

  • They submit reviews through the Guest Portal

You can also encourage reviews by:

  • Creating an after check-out messaging rule

  • Including the %guest_portal% link in your message

Review requests are sent automatically based on your messaging rules. They cannot be sent manually.

Limitations

Review functionality for Direct bookings is still evolving.

  • Hosts cannot reply to reviews

  • Review requests cannot be sent manually

  • Reviews depend on guests completing the process

  • AI filtering determines which reviews are shown
