How to Offer Paid Upsells to Your Guests

Set up and offer paid upsells like early check-in, late check-out, and custom products to your guests.

Hospitable offers an Upsells feature natively within the app, without requiring any additional external software. You can offer products like early check-in, late check-out, and custom upsells directly through the Guest Portal.

Upsells are available for users on Essentials, Host, Professional, and Mogul plans. They are also available for any Legacy users who have a Direct Premium plan.

What products can I offer?

Where do guests purchase my upsells?

The upsell offer is available in the Booking flow (if it is a direct booking) and in the Guest Portal under the "Upgrade your stay."

How can I let guests know about upsells?

Add the %Upsell% short code to a messaging rule.

This short code can populate information from three different areas:

  1. If you are using a third party software, to provide upsells/use their guest portal, the software can populate a link to replace the short code.

  2. If you have a URL added under Properties > Select Property > Details > Upsell, this link can be populated to replace the short code.

  3. If you have an active upsell & a payout method added, the guest portal link for that reservation, can be populated to replace the short code.

Add the Smart Upsell Smart code to a messaging rule.

You can automate your upsells by adding the Smart Upsell smart code to your messaging rules. Hospitable's AI will then take care of offering upsells to your guest automatically where appropriate. When adding new upsell products you can also view the Messaging rules where it will be added.

Currently, we are unable to set only a specific upsell for a messaging rule, the Smart upsell smart code will always offer all active upsells scoped for the property.

Send the guest portal link directly to your guest.

You can find a link to the guest portal in every conversation in your Hospitable inbox. You can copy and paste this into a message to send to your guest.

Use the Suggest with AI feature.

If you use the Suggest with AI feature, our AI will know which products are available to be sold at that moment and will offer them to the guest in its message draft, if it decides that it is appropriate to make an upsell offer.

Why isn't my upsell showing in the Guest Portal?

If a guest can't see your upsell in the portal, here are the most common reasons:

  • The upsell is inactive. Check that the upsell is toggled on under Guest Experience β†’ Upsells. Inactive upsells won't appear to guests.

  • The upsell isn't enabled for the property. Upsells can be scoped to specific properties. Make sure the upsell is enabled for the property associated with the guest's reservation.

  • The reservation is outside the upsell's offer window. Some upsells β€” like early check-in and late check-out β€” are only available to offer within a certain number of days before the reservation. If the guest is too far out or too close to check-in, the upsell may not appear.
