How to offer paid upsells to your guests

Hospitable now offers an Upsells feature natively within the app, without requiring any additional, external software.

Please note: the Upsells feature is currently in a private pilot for Direct Premium bookings only. We will be rolling out Upsells to Direct Basic bookings next, followed by all hosts across Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com.

Which products can I sell to guests?

We are starting with two upsell types: early check-in and late check-out.

We're looking forward to adding gap (orphan) night upsells by mid-November 2024, followed quickly by the ability for you to sell any products that are relevant to your property, such as access to facilities, equipment rental, flowers, and others. Stay tuned!

Where do guests purchases my upsells?

In the Guest Portal.

Booking confirmation

Guests that booked directly will have a link to the guest portal in their confirmation email.

Messaging Rules

You can automate your upsells by adding the Smart Upsell smart code to your messaging rules. Hospitable's AI will then take care of offering upsells to your guest automatically where appropriate.

Inbox

You can also find a link to the guest portal in every conversation in your Hospitable inbox. You can copy and paste this into a message.

AI

If you use the Suggest with AI feature, our AI will know which products are available to be sold at that moment and will offer them to the guest in its message draft, if it decides that it is appropriate to make an upsell offer.

How are payments handled?

Just like with Direct bookings, Hospitable takes care of handling payments and taxes from your guest purchasing upsells.

How do I receive upsell payouts?

For Direct Premium and Direct Basic bookings, the upsell income is rolled into your overall Direct income and paid out as usual.

Are all upsells always available for the guests to purchase?

At the moment, early check-in and late check-out options become available in the guest portal within 7 days of the check-in date.

We are still early in the development of this feature and are listening to feedback about your particular requirements.

What happens after an early check-in or late check-out is purchased?

Early check-in and late check-out upsells are unique in that they are deeply integrated with Hospitable messaging and tasks systems.

Whenever payment is confirmed for an early check-in upsell:

  • the check-in time for the booking is automatically adjusted in the Hospitable app,

  • the inbox displays the new check-in time,

  • scheduled messages based on check-in time are automatically rescheduled,

  • team notifications and tasks based on check-in time are automatically rescheduled,

  • smart lock codes are provisioned taking into account the updated check-in time.

The same happens for late check-out upsells.

Currently, early check-in upsells also make the day before check-in unavailable in your calendar. Late check-out upsells make the check-out day unavailable in your calendar.
