Property Currencies in Hospitable: How They Work, How They're Set, and How They Affect Your Channel Calendars

Understand how Hospitable determines property currency, what each channel controls, and what to do when currencies don't match.

Written by Dee Akram

Every property in Hospitable has a currency. That currency drives how prices, payouts, and reports are displayed, and it determines which properties can be merged together.

Most of the time, Hospitable picks the right currency for you automatically based on the listings you connect, but the rules differ from channel to channel — and on some channels you can change it, while on others you can't.

This article explains how property currency is determined, how each channel handles currency, and what to do when currencies don't line up.

How Hospitable determines a property's currency

This section is only about how the property currency value in Hospitable gets set. It is not about which currencies have to match when you merge properties — that's covered separately, further down in How currency affects merging properties.

For properties with listings on an online booking channel (OTA), you do not pick the property currency yourself — it's derived from the listings you connect:

  • One listing on the property. The property currency is taken directly from that listing.

  • Multiple listings on the property, all in the same currency. The property uses that shared currency.

  • Multiple listings on the property in different currencies. Hospitable falls back to the lead listing's currency for the property currency value. This is only really relevant when the property contains channels whose mismatches are tolerated for merging (Booking.com, Agoda, and — for calendar push only — Vrbo Partner Connection); otherwise such a property couldn't have been merged in the first place.

  • Direct-only properties. You choose the property currency when you create the property in Hospitable. That currency is what guests see and what Direct payouts use, and it's independent of any OTA listing you later connect.

💡 Your Hospitable subscription billing currency is separate from your property currency. Changing a property's currency does not affect how you are billed for Hospitable.

How each channel handles currency

Airbnb

On Airbnb, the host chooses the currency in the listing's price settings. Hospitable reads whatever Airbnb reports for the listing.

  • You can change an Airbnb listing's currency at any time from Airbnb's Hosting view → Calendar → the listing → Price settings → Base price → currency link.

  • If the listing is connected on PMS scope, the Currency field on Airbnb may be locked while Hospitable is connected.

  • For Airbnb co-hosted listings where the owner has not connected, Hospitable may not be able to read the listing's currency at all. Contact support if a merge is blocked for this reason — we can force-set the currency on the listing from our side.

Vrbo Legacy (older connection)

On the Legacy Vrbo connection, the currency is assigned automatically based on the regional Vrbo site the account was registered on. It cannot be changed from inside the Vrbo account or from Hospitable.

For example:

  • vrbo.com → US dollars (USD)

  • vrbo.co.uk → British pounds (GBP)

  • Other regional Vrbo sites use their local currency

Vrbo Legacy currencies count toward the merge currency check, so if a Vrbo Legacy listing's currency doesn't match the other non-exempt listings on the property you're merging into (Airbnb, Vrbo Partner, Direct), the merge will be blocked. The practical fix is to change the currency on Airbnb to match Vrbo Legacy — Vrbo Legacy itself cannot be changed.

Vrbo Partner Connection

On the Vrbo Partner Connection (the official API integration), the Vrbo side of the listing has its own currency, set by Vrbo based on the Vrbo account and the property's registered region. The host does not pick that currency in Hospitable, and the Vrbo dashboard is effectively read-only for currency on Hospitable-managed listings.

  • For day-to-day calendar and pricing sync, if the property's currency in Hospitable doesn't match the currency Vrbo uses for that listing, Hospitable converts the prices we push to Vrbo automatically. You don't need to do anything to make Vrbo accept the listing's pricing.

  • For merging properties, however, the Vrbo Partner Connection currency does count toward the currency check. A Vrbo Partner listing in one currency cannot be merged with an Airbnb (or Vrbo Legacy, or Direct) listing in a different currency.

  • Your Vrbo commission is charged in the currency of your Vrbo account.

  • You do not need to take any action to align currencies before merging Vrbo Partner with any other listing.

On the Vrbo Partner Connection, currency is controlled by Vrbo and cannot be changed from Hospitable or from the Vrbo dashboard. If you need a different currency, the change has to happen at the Vrbo account level with Vrbo support.

Booking.com and Agoda

Booking.com and Agoda are the only channels exempt from the merge currency check. Hospitable performs currency conversion on the prices we push to them, so a Booking.com or Agoda listing with a different currency than the other listings on the property won't block a merge.

You do not need to take any action on Booking.com or Agoda to align currencies for merging.

Direct

For Direct, the property currency in Hospitable controls the currency shown to guests on your Direct site and used for Direct payouts.

You set this currency when you create a Direct property. If the property also has OTA listings on non-exempt channels (Airbnb, Vrbo Legacy, Vrbo Partner), their currencies need to agree with the Direct property currency for merging to succeed.

How currency affects merging properties

When you merge two properties in Hospitable, the system checks that the non-exempt listings on each side share a single currency. "Non-exempt" means everything except Booking.com and Agoda.

The rule is:

  • All non-exempt listings on the merged property must share one currency. Non-exempt channels are: Airbnb, Vrbo Legacy, Vrbo Partner Connection, Direct, and any manual/iCal listings that have a currency set. If any two of these listings disagree on currency, the merge is blocked.

  • Only Booking.com and Agoda are exempt. Their currencies are converted automatically and never block a merge.

⚠️ A common misconception is that the Vrbo Partner Connection is exempt because Hospitable converts prices for it during calendar sync. That conversion happens on outbound price pushes — it does not apply to the merge currency check. Vrbo Partner currencies must still match your Airbnb, Vrbo Legacy, and Direct currencies for a merge to succeed.

Examples

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR). Property 2: Vrbo Legacy (EUR). → Merges successfully.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR). Property 2: Vrbo Legacy (CHF). → Blocked. Currencies disagree.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR). Property 2: Vrbo Partner (EUR). → Merges successfully.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR). Property 2: Vrbo Partner (CHF). → Blocked. Vrbo Partner counts toward the currency check.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR). Property 2: Booking.com (CHF). → Merges successfully. Booking.com is exempt.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR), Vrbo Legacy (CHF). Property 2: Booking.com (EUR). → Blocked. The Airbnb and Vrbo Legacy listings within Property 1 already disagree on currency.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR), Vrbo Partner (CHF). Property 2: Booking.com (EUR). → Blocked. Airbnb and Vrbo Partner disagree on currency on Property 1.

  • Property 1: Airbnb (EUR), Vrbo Partner (EUR), Agoda (USD). Property 2: Booking.com (JPY). → Merges successfully. Only Airbnb and Vrbo Partner need to match; Agoda and Booking.com are exempt.

ℹ️ If a merge fails for a currency reason, the error message will tell you which currencies are mismatched. The fix is always to bring the non-exempt listings into a single currency — usually by changing the Airbnb listing's currency, since that's the only one of the non-exempt channels whose currency you can directly edit.

How to align currencies before merging

The practical fix for nearly every currency mismatch is to change the Airbnb listing's currency, because:

  • Vrbo Legacy currency is fixed by the regional Vrbo site.

  • Vrbo Partner Connection currency is fixed by Vrbo and is only changeable through Vrbo support.

  • Direct currency is set when the property is created and isn't easily changed after the fact.

So when merging is blocked by a currency mismatch, the goal is to bring Airbnb in line with the other non-exempt listings.

To change your Airbnb listing's currency:

  1. Go to Airbnb and switch to Hosting view.

  2. Click Calendar in the top menu.

  3. Select the listing you're trying to merge in Hospitable.

  4. In the right panel, click Price settings.

  5. Next to Base price, click the currency link.

  6. Select the matching currency (for example USD) and confirm.

After you change the currency on Airbnb, Hospitable will pick it up on the next sync. To make the change reflect immediately:

  1. In Hospitable, go to Settings → Channel Connections.

  2. Click Edit next to the Airbnb channel.

  3. Click Re-sync.

Once both listings show the same currency in Hospitable, return to the property and merge again.

💡 If the Currency field is locked on Airbnb while your listing is connected on PMS scope, drop to OPS scope (or disconnect from Hospitable), change the currency on Airbnb, and reconnect on PMS scope. Reconnecting on PMS scope is what restores Hospitable as the source of truth.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing my property currency change my Hospitable subscription billing currency?

  • No. Hospitable subscription billing is managed separately and is not affected by changes to your property or listing currency.

Can I change the currency on a Vrbo listing?

Not from Hospitable, and not from the Vrbo dashboard on Hospitable-managed listings. Vrbo Legacy currency is fixed by the regional Vrbo site the account was registered on. Vrbo Partner Connection currency is tied to the Vrbo account and the property's registered region — changing it requires contacting Vrbo support at the account level. In both cases, the practical fix when a merge is blocked is to change the Airbnb currency to match the Vrbo currency, not the other way around.

Do I need to align currencies before merging if my Vrbo listing is on the Partner Connection?

Yes. The Vrbo Partner Connection counts toward the merge currency check, just like Vrbo Legacy and Airbnb. Hospitable does convert prices when pushing your calendar to Vrbo Partner, but that conversion is separate from the merge check — for merging, all non-exempt listings (Airbnb, Vrbo Legacy, Vrbo Partner, Direct) still need to share a single currency. Only Booking.com and Agoda are exempt from this check.

Will a Booking.com or Agoda listing in a different currency block a merge?

No. Booking.com and Agoda are the only channels exempt from the merge currency check. Hospitable converts their currencies automatically, so they can sit on a property alongside listings in any other currency.

What if the currency Vrbo uses for my listing is different from my property currency in Hospitable?

For day-to-day calendar and pricing sync, that's fine — Hospitable converts the prices we push to Vrbo automatically (on both the Vrbo Partner Connection and outbound to Booking.com and Agoda). However, when you go to merge properties, the Vrbo Partner Connection currency still has to agree with your other non-exempt listings (Airbnb, Vrbo Legacy, Direct). If you need to merge and there's a mismatch, the fix is to change the Airbnb side to match Vrbo.

Why does the merge error mention currency even though my Airbnb and Vrbo listings look the same?

Double-check the currency Hospitable shows for each listing on each property (not the OTA dashboard). Currency mismatches can also come from a third non-exempt listing on the property — for example, a Direct listing in a different currency, or a second Vrbo connection (Legacy + Partner) that hasn't been cleaned up. If everything looks right in Hospitable but the error persists, run a manual re-sync from Settings → Channel Connections, then contact support if it still doesn't resolve.

Does Hospitable convert prices on Airbnb or Vrbo Legacy if my property currency is different?

No. Automatic outbound currency conversion applies to Booking.com, Agoda, and the Vrbo Partner Connection. For Airbnb and Vrbo Legacy, currencies need to be aligned at the listing level — Hospitable does not silently convert prices for those channels. This is also why Airbnb and Vrbo Legacy mismatches block merges.
