Complete Your First Task

Learn how to review your assigned job, complete the required work, and mark the task as complete in the Tasks App.

Written by Dawn Ginie Santoyo

Once your host assigns you a job, it appears in the Jobs tab of the Tasks App. Each job contains the information you need to complete your work, including instructions, checklists, property access details, and any required photos.

This article walks you through the typical task workflow.

Open an assigned job

To view your assigned work:

  1. Open the Jobs tab.

  2. Select the task you want to complete.

  3. Review the task details before starting work.

Review the task details

Each task may include information such as:

  • Property name

  • Scheduled date and time

  • Task instructions

  • Property access information

  • Checklist items

  • Notes from your host

  • Required photos

Take a moment to review everything before beginning the job.

Complete the checklist

If your host has added a checklist, complete each item as you work through the task.

Some checklist items may require photos before you can finish the task.

Upload photos

Some tasks require photo evidence to confirm the work has been completed.

If photos are required:

  1. Open the photo section of the task.

  2. Take a new photo or upload one from your device.

  3. Wait for the upload to finish before marking the task as complete.

Communicate with your host

If you have questions or need to share an update, use the Messages tab or the task conversation to contact your host.

You can use messages to:

  • Ask questions about the task

  • Share updates

  • Confirm you've arrived

  • Let your host know if you're running late

What if I miss the scheduled completion time?

You can still complete an expired task. The action buttons stay available, and the task shows a clear status so you and the host both know it's past the original window.

Here's how payment works when a task runs past its scheduled completion:

  • Within 72 hours after the scheduled completion time: Complete the task as usual. Payment processes automatically once the host reviews and approves, following the same flow as any on-time task.

  • More than 72 hours after the scheduled completion time: You can still mark the task complete, but payment requires manual approval from the host before it's released. This gives the host a chance to confirm the work was done and wasn't already paid another way.

If you're regularly running past the scheduled window, message the host through the task so you can adjust the schedule or the completion buffer together.

Share a job with someone helping you

If someone else is helping you with a task, like a friend or a member of your cleaning team, you can share the job with them so they can see the details, message the host, and mark work complete on your behalf. You stay the primary teammate for the job, and the host still sees you as the person responsible.

How to share a job

  1. Open the assigned job from your dashboard.

  2. Tap Share in the job details.

  3. Pick someone from My Team, or tap Add new person and enter their first name, last name, and email or phone number (at least one).

  4. Choose a language for their invite (English or Español).

  5. Confirm. They'll receive an invite by email if you gave them an email address, or by SMS if you only gave them a phone number, with a link to open the job.

A few things to know

  • If your onboarding answers said you coordinate tasks for other people, you'll see this action labeled Assign instead of Share throughout the app. It works the same way.

  • People you've shared tasks with before are saved to the My Team page in your Account tab. Their details auto-fill the next time you share a job.

  • When a helper sends a message, reports an issue, or uploads a photo, the host sees their name on that action, not yours.

  • The host does not need to add your helper as a teammate on their account. They only ever manage the primary teammate, which is you.

To stop sharing a job, open it and remove the helper from the participants list.

Report an issue

If you discover a problem while completing a task, you can report it to your host.

For example, you might report:

  • Damage to the property

  • Missing supplies

  • Maintenance issues

  • Anything that prevents you from completing the task as expected

Your report may include photos and additional details to help your host understand the issue.

Rate the guest

Before completing a cleaning job, you may be asked to rate how the guest left the property.

To leave a guest rating:

  1. Review the Guest rating section.

  2. Select the appropriate star rating based on the condition the guest left the property.

  3. Continue reviewing any remaining task details before completing the job.

Your feedback helps your host better understand the condition of the property after each stay.

Guest ratings are available for cleaning tasks and may not appear for every job.

Mark the task as complete

Once you've finished all required work:

  1. Review the checklist to make sure all required items are complete.

  2. Confirm any required photos have been uploaded.

  3. Select Complete task.

The task status updates automatically so your host knows the work has been finished.

What happens next?

After you complete a task:

  • Your host is notified that the task is finished.

  • Some tasks may require your host's approval before they move to the next stage.

  • If your host pays teammates through Hospitable, the task will enter the payout process according to your host's payout schedule.

Payment timing depends on your host's payout schedule and whether the completed task requires approval before a payout can be processed.
