What is the difference between custom codes and shortcodes, and how do I use custom codes?

Custom codes are a powerful engine to automatically adapt your message to the profile of your guests, their inquiry or reservation, and your selected listing.

Custom codes are small bits of text or whole paragraphs that you can insert into your messaging rules or teammate notification rules.

They always start and end with "%%", to distinguish them from our system shortcodes, which start and end with just one "%". They are also highlighted in the messaging rule or notification rule in pink, as opposed to green for shortcodes.

Unlike shortcodes, they are not meant to be replaced by some data from your reservations or booking platforms/listings automatically.

Instead, they contain only the text that you typed into them, manually! These are bits of text or entire paragraphs that will be important to some guests, teammates, or listings but not to others.

For example:

  • With custom codes, you can add a special paragraph for guests staying more than a week.

  • You can also have an extra paragraph for families traveling with children.

  • You can use custom codes to communicate property-specific information to your guests, such as if the check-in procedure for one property is different to another.
You can read more about that here.
